Do you want to look like a Femme Fatale?

Today I will give you some advice for "who wanna look like a Femme Fatale"!

First of all you have to think in a black and white way...

Imagine that you are in the 50's, so turn your smart phone off, and get a move on buy a home phone, or locate a phone box in your city ( I swear it still exists!)! You are only allowed to keep this Internet page!

 

Then you have to find a proper outfit! You can visit secondhand clothes shops to find the perfect dress. I can recommand you Châtelet neighborhood in Paris, where you can find many shops, as "kilo shop"!

 So when you will be in such a shop, chose a dress that makes you both sexy and elegant. Remember that everything which is hidden is more propitious to the men's imagination and keep in mind that the Femme Fatale is a mysterious person! Look at Veronica Lake with a beautiful white dress, she is gorgeous! 

In the shop you can also look after accessories, such as a bracelet that you can wear at your ankle or black sunglasses like Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity. You can also try a black hat or gloves.

  An other thing which is important is your hairdressing! If you look  at a Femme Fatale you realize that she seems to have spend hours to  do her hair! 

 Save your grand-mother hair curlers and let your imagination do the rest! You can also be inspired by Ann Savage in Scared Stiff (on the right), she masters her fringe to seem having a natural hairdressing! 

Now, I have to end with the make up! It has to be discreet for the eyes but you do not hesitate with your lipstick! Because of the fact you are in Black and White, it will be emphasized and it will be more glamour! You can observe the way Barbara Stanwyck and Lizabeth Scott are made up in The strange love of Martha Ivers. They are just perfect!

The Femme Fatale is always illuminated by the light, so she's like an angel.
Who guess that this woman could be a dangerous one for the men!

An indépendent woman!

 The Femme Fatale is totally in contradiction with the traditional woman and the nuclear family in the 40's and the 50's. She is certainly not a consecrated wife or mother. She is an independent woman who doesn't want to loose her feminine assets while she gets married.

The Femme Fatale is particularly beautiful, sexy, smart, mysterious, scheming and ambitious! She is an ambiguous character, because she is like an angel but she behave like an evil. So we don't know if we have to admire her for her power and her beauty or despise her because she is selfish and baleful.

She is often attracted by money, so she uses her seductiveness to manipulate men and get what she wants. Men are blinded by her allure and they don't see that she often lies and thinks only about her interests.

The Femme Fatale is an independent woman who needs men to plot and who controls them. She remains a strong character above her inevitable death.

She belongs to Film Noir...

 First of all you have to understand in which context the Femme Fatale develops! 
                               Her universe is the Film Noir world. 

The term "Film Noir" was given by French films critics. In 1946 Nino Franck was the first to use this term.

 They wanted to illustrate the trend of dark scenario during the Cold War. This time period was marked by insecurities, tensions and the threat of nuclear weapons. They also wanted to counter-balance the joviality of the Hollywood's musicals.

 Film Noir was a style of classic Black and White American films that started in the 1940's.

They dealt with the theme of murder, violence, betrayal, greedy purpose and they never propose happy endings.

The story is usually built around a cynical and disillusioned male character who met a beautiful, sexual, dangerous and ambitious female character who led him to his ruin.

 This woman is the well-know Femme Fatale!
